Sharing a Repo with You
Inspired by Frank O'Hara
is even more fun than going to Birmingham, London, Cambridge, Harwell, Oxford
or being sick to my stomach on the lab snacks in the office
partly because in your thorlabs shirt you look like a better trendier Sébastien B
partly because of my love for organisation, partly because of your love for reproducibility
partly because of the fluorescent orange fox around the top corner
partly because of the secrecy our smiles take on before non-git users
it is hard to believe when I’m with you that there can be anything as unsolvable
as confusing as unpleasantly difficult as merge conflicts when right in front of it
in the blue 4am light we are drifting back and forth
between each other through our computer screens
and the code seems to have no words in it at all, just squiggles
you suddenly wonder why in the world anyone ever wrote itI look at gitlab and I would rather look at gitlab than all the portraits in the world
except possibly for Charles’ profile pic and anyway it’s in the discord
which thank heavens you haven’t seen yet so I can share it with you for the first time
and the fact that you code so beautifully more or less takes care of readability
just as at home I never think of the M-Labs Forum or
in the lab a single script not backed remotely that used to worry me
and what good does all the research of the scientists do them
when they never got the right person to git push before the computer froze
or for that matter your coworker when they didn’t pick the package manager as carefully
as the editor
it seems they were all cheated of some marvelous experience
which is not going to go wasted on me which is why I’m messaging you about it
